Medical School Holds the 2025 Oath-Taking Ceremony for New Medical Students and the First Lecture on Medical Ethics and Professional Conduct

Author: Yang Chenxi Date: 2025-10-14

On the afternoon of October 12th, the Medical School held the 2025 Oath-Taking Ceremony for new medical students and the First Lecture on Medical Ethics and Professional Conduct at the Lin Xingjin Auditorium. In attendance were members of the School's Party and administrative leadership, faculty representatives, specially invited guests, and all 2025 undergraduate freshmen.

The ceremony commenced in a solemn atmosphere. All students solemnly donned customized white coats, fastening them button by button from the very first. This act served as a metaphor for the "armor of knowledge" and the "mirror of initial aspiration," marking the first lesson on reverence for medicine and a sense of responsibility.

During the oath-taking segment, Dr. Zhou Ru from Ningbo University Affiliated People's Hospital led all freshmen in raising their right fists and solemnly reciting the medical student oath, which begins with "The health and life of my patient are my sacred trust." Through this ritual, the freshmen were exhorted to adhere to the principle of "Understanding Shame and Illuminating Virtue, Practicing Medicine with Integrity," safeguarding benevolence with a righteous heart and supporting the soul of medicine with profound virtue.

In the subsequent "First Lecture on Medical Ethics and Professional Conduct," part of the Apricot Forest Culture Festival, Tao Peng, Member of the Party Committee of the Haishu District Health Bureau, was invited to deliver a themed report titled "Days in the Gulf of Aden." He shared his special experience of traveling to the Gulf of Aden to carry out medical missions. Drawing from his personal experience, he recounted touching stories of holding fast to their posts and fulfilling military duties in arduous conditions. He emphasized the optimism forged through the trials of monotony and pressure, a deep-seated patriotic sentiment, and the international humanitarian spirit demonstrated during cross-border escort missions. Reflecting on those special years, Tao Peng expressed ardent expectations for the freshmen: to carry forward the patriotic spirit, diligently study medical knowledge, actively cultivate comprehensive qualities, continuously enhance their capacity to serve, and always uphold benevolence and courageously shoulder their mission on their future medical paths.

The career planning guidance session provided clear direction for the freshmen's growth. The keynote speaker used the adage "In all matters of life, one must act for oneself; Step by step, vast landscapes unfold" to illustrate that the path of medicine values self-reliance and accumulation. Three key suggestions were further offered: first, to proactively consolidate theoretical knowledge and build a structured knowledge system; second, to diligently hone clinical skills and develop strong practical abilities; third, to persistently cultivate moral character and enhance wisdom through learning, thereby nurturing the virtue of a healer.

The ceremony concluded successfully in an inspiring atmosphere. May all 2025 freshmen take this as a starting point, forge ahead with determination, translate their vows into action, continuously advance on their medical journey, and contribute their youthful strength to the building of a Healthy China.
